Crown after a root canal from extensive margin decay.
The center tooth had decay under the margins, which led to bacterial invasion of the internal nerve (pulp) leading to tooth death or necrosis. As a result, a root canal was needed. To access the root, a hole was made in the top of the crown, then temporarily plugged. This access hole in most cases needs to be repaired by making a new crown.
